Wheldon and Franchitti One-Two in Kansas

Dan Wheldon today won the Kansas Lottery Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. Wheldon, who started fourth in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing car, surged to the front in the opening laps, running side-by-side with pole-placed Tony Kanaan for several laps before taking the lead on Lap 9. The English driver held the lead for 177 of the 200 laps to win the race and consolidate his overall Championship lead. The win is Wheldon’s second of the season and gives him a 27-point advantage over Scott Dixon in the driver standings heading into the Indianapolis 500.

Fellow CSS Stellar client, Dario Franchitti, maintained his good start to the season by taking  second place, and he is one of only six drivers to finish all four races of the 2007 season in the top ten. Another CSS client, Milka Duno, also made headlines at the Kansas Speedway, the Venezualan making her Indy Car Series debut and finishing in a very creditable 14th place.

For both Dan and Dario, there was satisfaction at a job well done in Kansas and their focus now shifts to the legendary Indy 500. Dan said: "It was a pure team effort from the Target Chip Ganassi Racing crew. Everybody did a great job. We’re gearing up, we’re going to go for the big one now. The Indianapolis 500, that’s the big goal for us. I was frustrated since Motegi and wanted to prove a point. The car was fantastic.” Which was a viewpoint shared by Dario, “I’m just happy the Canadian Club car is looking fast right now leading into Indy, and that’s what we need.” – 29 April 2007
