Dovizioso Crowned World Champion

Andrea Dovizioso became the fourth youngest World Champion in history after a second place finish in the Malaysian 125cc Grand Prix at Sepang today.  In doing so, he also secured the 100th title win for Honda. Andrea has had a fantastic season, with just one result outside the top four from the fourteen races so far and has proven that he is by far the best driver in the Series, and a worthy World Champion. Dovizioso has started from pole seven times this year. Only two other riders have had more than a single pole position - Marco Simoncelli and Jorge Lorenzo, who have two each. No other rider in the 125cc class has won more races and had more podium finishes than Dovizioso this season.

In Malaysia, a podium finish proved enough for Dovizioso, who had promised to fight for victory and took the challenge to Stoner all the way to the flag. Stoner held on to win by the narrowest of margins - 0.029 seconds- but Dovizioso had secured the ultimate prize and is the new World Champion. – 10 October 2004
