New-Look England Held By Holland

A new-look England team was held to a 0-0 draw in front of a capacity crowd at Villa Park last night. England were frustrated by a talented Dutch lineup and struggled to find any fluency on a difficult playing surface. The highlight of the evening for England supporters was the sight of two players pulling on the famous Three Lions shirt for the very first time.

Stewart Downing of Middlesborough and Andy Johnson of Crystal Palace made their senior international debuts and after encouraging performances, both will be hopeful of being involved in the squad for the future World Cup qualifiers. – 10 February 2005
