Senderos Makes Champions League Debut

Philippe Senderos last night made his debut in the Champions League for Arsenal as the Gunners faced Bayern Munich in the vital second-leg decider at Highbury. The young Swiss defender gave a nerveless display and showed his quality as the Gunners kept a clean sheet.

A Thierry Henry goal secured a 1-0 victory for Arsenal but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to secure a quarter-final place for Arsene Wenger’s team, with Bayern progressing 3-2 on aggregate.

The result means that Philippe will have to wait until next season to sample the Champions League atmosphere again but he can be very proud of his debut, having been voted man-of-the-match by most commentators and pundits. – 10 March 2005
