Gonzalo Fernandez Castano won his first European PGA Tour title today. He shot a 3-under 67 in the final round to win the KLM Dutch Open at Hilversum with a score of 11-under par (269).
Castano, who is playing his first season as a professional, took the lead with an eagle on the third hole after his shot landed in the cup. The Spaniard sank long putts for birdies on the eighth and ninth to offset two bogies and eventually finished two strokes clear of the field.
Gary Emerson of England finished second, two strokes back, with an even-par 70 at the Hilversumsche Golf Club, one stroke ahead of Paul Broadhurst in third. - 12 June 2005
