Montoya wins Italian Grand Prix

Juan Pablo Montoya recorded his second win of the 2005 Formula 1 season with an emphatic win from pole position at the Italian Grand Prix.

Juan recorded his sixth career victory at the notoriously fast Monza circuit which is where he also won his first Grand Prix in 2001. Montoya had a terrific race with little to worry about until a setback developed on his rear left tyre on the final few laps.

Montoya had a dream result, his fast pace in the opening stages of the race led to the creation of a welcome gap which lasted most of the race. It was only in the final few laps when Montoya experienced tyre problems that  Fernando Alonso start gaining time. However Montoya skillfully maintained his lead and crossed the finish line 2.4 seconds ahead of Alonso. He now lies in fourth position in the overall driver championship. - 4 September 2005
