| Oliver capped a superb 2008 with a Ryder Cup debut to remember in Valhalla, coming back from four down to defeat Anthony Kim and Phil Mickelson 2 and 1 in the second day foursomes when playing with Henrik Stenson. He came close to his European Tour breakthrough several times, finishing runner up on four occasions in 2008 including in a play-off with Miguel Angel Jiménez at the BMW PGA Championship. He improved his Order of Merit from 97th to 11th between 2005 & 2008. By the end of the 2008 season Oliver had seven second place finishes in his European Tour career. He made his debut in the winning Great Britain and Ireland Seve Trophy team in 2007 where he won twice. On a charitable front, he has pledged his support to Dare UK, the British arm of a worldwide anti-drugs educational programme, and he is also a Youth Ambassador for the Golf Foundation. |
