 |
| Gonzalo captured the fourth Tour title of his career at the third extra hole of a thrilling play-off with Lee Westwood at the Quinn Insurance British Masters at The Belfry. He followed in the footsteps of his idol Steve Ballesteros when his maiden victory came in The KLM Open at Hilversumsche Golf Club in 2005. While it took Ballesteros 27 attempts to win his first Tour title, Fernandez-CastaƱo achieved the feat in only 16. It was a performance which ultimately saw him win The 2005 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. His position as one of Spain's leading talents was further underlined by his victory in the 2006 BMW Asian Open in a play-off, he returned to winning ways at the 2007 Italian Open. Gonzalo started playing golf at the early age of five. He is now coached by Jose Carlos GutiƩrrez.
