After spending a tumultuous 2008 season in NASCAR, the 2007 Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar Series Champion returned to open wheel racing in 2009 behind the wheel of the #10 Target car for Chip Ganassi Racing. And in his first full season back in IndyCars, Franchitti won five races, collected five pole positions and won his second career IndyCar Series Championship. He is the currently the most successful British driver in U.S. open-wheel history with 198 starts in both CART and the IndyCar Series from 1997-2009, recording 23 wins, 23 poles, 81 Top-5 finishes and 119 top-10 finishes. In 2008, the Scotland native also captured the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring with Andretti Green Racing and won the Rolex 24 at Daytona in his first race for Chip Ganassi Racing, joining A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti as the only drivers to all win the Indy 500, the 12 Hours of Sebring, a major open-wheel title and the Rolex 24.
